September 30, 2024 - Loganville, WI - Farmer Angel Network has busy in September raising awareness for the challenges facing the rural farming community that impact mental health.
We appreciate so much all of the partners that are helping us spread the word of these issues and how to help our family, friends and neighbors going through tough times. The more we talk about mental health, the more we break the stigma, the more likely those that need help will get it.

As awareness of rural mental health issues grows, so too does a mosaic of efforts to help: teletherapy, hotlines, “resiliency circles” and more.
Elizabeth Hewitt interviewed FAN co-founder Dorothy Harms for the news story as a collaboration between Rotary magazine and Reasons to be Cheerful. The story was included in the Rotary magazine which has a international circulation of over 500,000 readers.
American Hospital Association's Advancing Health podcast
Brenda Statz, Carey Craker and Christy Updike are interviewed about how the local healthcare systems partner to support Farmer Angel Network efforts. The podcast has also been featured in the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, Rural Health Information Hub, and Association for the Health Care Environment newsletters in all reaching thousands of healthcare professionals.
Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE) interviews FAN co-founder Dorothy Harms for Suicide Prevention Week to learn about FAN efforts.
United States Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, in his role as Governor visited the Sauk County Democratic Headquarters discussing those issues important to agriculture for this election. FAN volunteer, Christy Updike, shared the mental health crisis and needs FAN is hearing in the farming community.

Writer Jim Massey shares information from the Western Wisconsin Farm Summit, a collaborative effort between Farmer Angel Network; it's branch in Western Wisconsin; UW-Extension Agriculture; and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Wisconsin Farm Center.
The summit was intended to help those who care for farmers and farm workers understand the unique challenges they face and practical approaches to provide care for them.
2024 Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education Conference
FAN Co-Founder Dorothy Harms led a full workshop spotlighting rural mental health challenges and how communities can come together to sustain farm families during times of distress. The workshop had 40 participants from across Wisconsin as part of the WHCE annual conference held in Appleton. Here is Dorothy Harms leading the workshop.
Wormfarm Institute has supported Farmer Angel Network over the years by spreading word of our efforts in their magazine and including FAN in the Farm Art DTour. Find us this year in the magazine here, at Witwen park and Harrisburg School. The 2024 event was expected to draw in 15,000 participants over the two weekends.
