August 20, 2024 - Baldwin, WI - Wisconsin organizations come together to offer this free Farm Summit geared toward healthcare, mental healthcare and agriculture service providers to network and learn how to best care for those working in agriculture with mental health challenges.
Farming is a stressful and isolating occupation. The program offered networking with each other and learning from experts and those with lived experiences around mental health challenges.ย
Dr. Sara Kohlbeck, from the Medical College of Wisconsin, who conducts research about suicide spoke at the Summit and says, โSuicide among farmers is an important public health issue. Studies have shown that in the United States and in Wisconsin, farmers have higher rates of suicide than those in other occupations. Farmers face unique stressors that contribute to suicide, and it is important for health care workers and others to understand these stressors to better support our farmers.โ
